MRI’s of Obese Patients requires an Open Mind

MRI imaging of obese and claustrophobic patients pose a special set of challenges in the MRI Suite. Advanced Radiology Services understands these special challenges, and is able to meet your needs in a kind, courteous and professional manner.

Open Bore MRI

Advanced Radiology Services provide high field 1.5 tesla open bore MRI. The wide-bore MRI technology offers solutions for both comfort and quality. “The larger opening increases patient comfort, while the high magnetic field strength gives us the ability to perform more detailed studies on claustrophobic and large patients.

The wide bore MRI will allow people who are claustrophobic to feel more at ease because of its wider opening and shorter length.” The shorter length allows most of the exams to be completed with the patient’s head outside of the bore. (SEE BELOW)

Open MRI

In the case of extreme claustrophobia or very obese patients, ARS provides on open MRI unit with one of the largest openings in the industry. Traditionally, the “clam shell” type MRI’s opening is only 40 to 50 cm, and is closed on one side. The Toshiba Opart has an opening that is 65 cm. The four post design allows for opening on all four sides of the MRI giving the patient a more airy feel. Large windows allow patients to look outside giving the room a more open feel.
